Sonny wants out!  Can Jason or Carly change his mind?

Things get downright messy on General Hospital, as Sonny starts the week by sleeping with Carly and ends it by declaring he wants out of the Mob!  How the heck does he get from point A to point B?  Read on -- it's a wild and bumpy ride!

Mixed Doubles:

Things start off with a..um, major twist when Michael's crisis pushes Carly and Sonny into one another's arms.  Swept up in the moment and driven by passion, the incediary pair wind up having sex in the back of his limo.  Quicker than you can say "bad idea", the two are regretting their momentary lapse of judgment, with Carly feeling guilty and Sonny swearing that he will never tell her husband.

Speaking of Jax, as this is going on, he's off having a fine time in Manhattan, attending a party with his partner in publishing, Kate.  While there, they bond over recent events with him offering an open car and a strong shoulder.  Comparing notes, the two lament the fact that they are often shut out of their loved ones lives.  When a problem with his plane results in their return being delayed, the pair continue bonding and eventually share a kiss.

Meanwhile, Jason is having a tough time dealing with Michael's situation.  Finding the distraught hit man grieving in the rain, Liz takes him to an abandoned cabin.  Once there, he unleashes a torrent of emotion about the boy he once claimed as his son.  "Michael was like my son" says Burton in character.  Liz insures her lover that he has done everything in his power for both Michael and Jake

"They can never be together" Burton says! "It's tragic"

Carly's Shocking Move

Fresh from having slept with Sonny, Carly presents him with legal documents and asks that he sign away his parental rights to Michael and Morgan.  "He's in shock," admits Maurice Benard.  Lashing out, Sonny accuses her of using sex to get what she wants.  In truth, says Benard, her actions hit close to home.  "I truly believe that Sonny, deep down, knows he can't be a good father but nobody can tell him not to".  Instead, he stands firm, refusing to sign the documents.  "He's scared" says the actor.  "He doesn't want to lose another son." Meanwhile, Jax proves himself a gentleman, by taking full responsibility for the kiss he and Kate shared.  She, however, admits she wanted it to happen.

Reunited at the Haunted Star, Kate is furious to hear about Carly's latest move, defending Sonny's parental rights even as he considers signing them away.  "Of course he feels guilty" says Benard of the fact that Sonny has once again cheated on the woman who is now leaping to his defense.  "H doesn't feel worthy of Kate."

Across town, Carly swings by Jason's place to confess her recent sins.  Although surprised to hear his gal pal slept with her ex, Jason admits to understanding why she wants Sonny to sign away his rights.  "This lifestyle is not a safe place for kids,"  sums up Burton, still in character.  "So I see Carly's point."

Sonny Wants Out

Summoning Diane, Sonny orders her to have legal paperwork drawn up.  Although she thinks he is making a huge mistake, Diane agrees.  He later show up at Carly's with the paperwork in hand.  She assumes he's there to fight her for custody of Morgan only to be blown away when instead, he announces he's quitting the Mob so that he and the boys will be safe.  "He's tried everything else and nothing has worked," says Benard with a shrug.  "He's figuring that if he finally really does get out it would be good for his son and daughter.  He's got to get out to protect them.  He's got to move somewhere."

Upon telling Jason he intends to sign the whole business over to him, Sonny doesn't get exactly the reaction he expected.  In fact, both Jason and Carly try talking him out of the move, insisting it won't achieve his goal of making everyone safe.  'He wants to leave the Mob?" says Burton, in character.  "He wants to have a normal life?  Well, that ain't gonna happen!  Sonny's always going to be a target."  Of course, the actor says that his alter ego has no problem stepping into the literal top gun spot.  "Why not?" he says.  "I've got nothing to live for"  he laments referring to the fact that Jason can never be with Liz and their son.  Seeing what happened to Michael made it perfectly clear.  Burton says that Jason and Liz must stay away from one another.  "You can't go over here and have a family, knowing that you're putting the woman you love and your child in harm.  It's selfish.  You can't do it!"

In fact, Jason suggest to Sonny that instead of leaving the Mob, he should keep Morgan safe by walking away from the boy.  "It's a sad situation for everyone," admits Burton.  "I'm telling Sonny to give up his kid!"  Things come to a shocking head when battle lines are drawn between Sonny and Jason.  A verbal exchange leads to punches being thrown as someone close to both men decides it's time to get out of Dodge!  Will one of Port Charles most popular residents really hit the road?
